Geeking-out

March 14th 2007 in Random Thoughts

I bought this processor upgrade for my main workstation.  Gives me a 600Mhz boost.  Got it off Ebay, and it came today…in a plain box with egg-crate foam with no static shielding whatsoever.  It really irritated me to see that this seller who received good money from me would be so careless in shipping this fragile and sensitive item.  These things are very sensitive to static shock.  I emailed the seller expressing my  disappointment.  On the positive side, the CPU did work.  I put it in my Dell, powered it on and it’s working okay so far.  I do have a heat concern…that the extra 600Mhz may be kicking out too much heat for this fan to handle, but I’ll have to monitor the system and see if it freezes randomly or runs stable.  The processor I pulled out, I trickled-down to my other Dell which gave it a 400Mhz boost.  I’ve noticed a definite difference in the second machine; haven’t had the time to test my primary yet.  Oh well another day ;-)
Had some friends over for some bbq today.  Nothing big just a few people.  Some good food, some drinks, and good company.  I love entertaining my friends.  It brings me much joy.
